| (Missy Browning) Looking toward 2012, I’d like to be a bit more organized (gasp, yes it is possible) in planning and collecting for the homeless and medical outreach ministries. Beginning with Milton Baptist, I’d like to invite your group or congregation to consider participating in the year-long plan. If that’s not feasible, simply pick a month or two to help based on a special project or event (VBS, Missions Month, etc.) Below are the monthly assignments planned around the needs for that season: January Packages of Snack Crackers and Pain Reliever (Children & Adult) February Snack Cakes & Cold Medication (Children & Adults) March Men’s Socks & Zantac, Tums or Maalox April Men’s Underwear & Vitamins (Children & Adults) May Small bottles of Bug Repellant & Allergy Meds June Bleach Wipes & Antifungal Creams July Snack Cakes & Vitamins (Children & Adults) August Women’s Socks & Anti-itch Cream September Jackets & Cold Meds October Long Johns & Zantac, Tums or Maalox November Coats & Pain Reliever (Children & Adults) December Items for the Christmas Bags Please be in prayer about how your group (co-workers, family, small group, etc.) might help in the coming year. If you’d like to participate, I’d be happy to meet you to pick up the items each month. In addition, MBC and River Park are both drop off locations if either are convenient locations for you. |
| (Tiffani Brooke Webb) New year means new projects!!! Gold Award is finished and I would like to begin small missions for local organizations. The groups are listed below that I would like to highlight each month along with their current need. This is a great opportunity to inform the services they provide as well as help them with their Needs List. This is a chance for churches, boy and girl scouts troops, students, friends, and family to ban together and help right here in our community. Think of the difference that we can make by working as a team! Bonus: Students can earn volunteer hours that are needed for graduation. If you would like to help: please start by “Like” the post and Share on your page. Gently-loved items are great: recycles and gets them to a new home. Clean out your closets – we can store items until the designated month arrives! Source4 in Milton has agreed to be a drop off location for donated items. I will send out a reminder and a little information about the organization at the beginning of each month. January: Collecting homemade cookies and treats for the Barboursville Veterans home. Cookies were inspired since the Girl Scout cookie sale starts tomorrow. Great way to Thank our Vets! Please consider going to deliver and visit with our Vets! Delivery date: Feb. 3 at 6:30. Please place cookies in disposable containers like Gladware. There are 101 veterans (men and women) currently residing at the home. Sugar free options are needed. Most do not have families or need a transition home. Several have just returned from serving over-seas!! Age ranges early 20’s to their oldest of 95. Only veterans home is WV. They do not have to be from WV to live there. Some may stay a few months and others for their lifetime. They would love to have visitors and want to give back to the community. If you have a project they may be able to help. They just built dollhouses for 3 girls as Christmas gifts. February: Collecting cell phones and accessories for Branches. Safe Date Program spotlight. March: Collecting Teddy bears for Milton and Barboursville Police and Fire Dept. to give to kids. They keep in their trunks and give when tragedy like accident, fire, ect as a comfort tool. | (Tiffani Brooke Webb) During the month of February, I am collecting cell phones and accessories for Branches Domestic Abuse Shelter. Branches is a non-profit agency in Huntington, WV providing shelter to women, children, and men who are victims of domestic violence. Cell phones are given to ...the victims to use in case of emergency and can only dial 911. Just think: The cell you are no longer using could save a life!! You can help by collecting cell phones and/or any accessories from family and friends that are no longer in use. I can pick-up your donations or they can be dropped off at Source4 in Perry Morris Sq, Milton. You can also help by Inviting friends to the event to help get the word out. Almost one of ten high school girls experience dating violence. This percentage rises to one out of five for female college students. Verbal abuse is a common method of control, and this type of intimidation may eventually be accompanied by physical force. Many young woman accept extreme jealously, possessiveness, and verbal or physical abuse as signs of affection. Nearly 80% of girls who have been victims of physical abuse in their dating relationships continue to date the abuser. Girls who accept dating violence often end up in a violent adult relationship. Help spread the word within the community of the important work being done at Branches and urge those you know who are victims of domestic violence to seek help from Branches.
