Job Title: Youth and Family Life Minister

 

Purpose: The Youth and Family Life Minister is a full-time position responsible for providing leadership and management of all Children’s and Youth ministries (nursery through high school) through the promotion and development of a Christ-centered ministry. This position will help to grow the Kingdom of God through the development of children and families as they progress and mature as disciples of Christ.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred seminary degree, working towards seminary degree, or desire to enroll in seminary program. Has a desire for continued growth and lifelong learning.
  • Exemplifies a mature Christian walk compatible with the Articles of Faith of Milton Baptist Church (MBC).
  • Possesses a heart for serving people and spreading God’s love and experience with growing disciples.
  • Experience with youth/children’s ministry is preferred.
  • Has demonstrated the ability to build connections with the church family and provide leadership to various committees and boards.
  • Possesses strong communication skills and is fluent in using various modes of communication and social media to best reach youth and the church family.
  • Is a self-starter and possesses the ability to ensure tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner.

 

Ministry Priorities:

  • Nursery through 5th grade (referred to as Children’s): Provide guidance and support in the implementation of children’s programs.
  • Middle school and high school (referred to as Youth): Develop and implement an engaging youth program to grow disciples and encourage youth participation in church activities.
  • Family: Provide support for families and encourage family participation in church activities.
  • Ministry team: Provide leadership to the church body in partnership with the senior pastor.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Nursery through 5th grade
    • Research and implement a program to train volunteers on safe church practices.
    • Recruit and train volunteers for various roles of the children’s ministry.
    • Support volunteers in planning Wednesday night activities, Vacation Bible School, and other various events throughout the year including assistance with selecting curriculum and developing budget.
    • Research and select age-appropriate curriculum that aligns with MBC’s beliefs for Children’s Church.
  • Middle school and high school
    • Research and select age-appropriate curriculum that aligns with MBC’s beliefs for Wednesday night Youth Group.
    • Provide hands-on leadership to Youth ministry on Wednesday nights.
    • Select and support volunteers for Sunday night Youth Group as well as other Youth activities.
    • Integrate youth into other church ministries, worship services, and mission opportunities.
    • Develop Youth budget, present to Board of Trustees annually, and oversee the Youth budget upon its approval.
    • Conduct visitation in-person through attendance of extracurricular activities or via social media and phone to enhance relationships and spiritual enrichment.
    • Support ongoing Christian activities in schools.
    • Provide opportunities for fellowship outside of the church environment (i.e. retreats, ski trips, bowling, etc….).
    • Family
      • Encourage family participation in church activities.
      • Maintain contact with parents/guardians to inform them on upcoming activities and exchange ideas and concerns.
      • Work with ministry leaders to align activities and respective budgets which promote multi-generational fellowship.
    • Ministry team
      • Aid the senior pastor with weekly services.
      • Be prepared to lead Sunday service in the senior pastor’s absence.
      • Attend weekly staff meetings.
      • Attend monthly committee/board meetings.
      • Utilize the resources and events that the West Virginia Baptist Convention (WVBC) offers and maintain a strong relationship with them.
      • Understand the church structure, budget, bylaws, and constitution.
      • Participate in yearly review to assess the direction of the church’s ministries and adjust as the needs of the church change.

     

    Requirements:

    • Possess a valid driver’s license.
    • Pass a background check.
    • Pass a drug test.
    • Provide official transcript of college degree.
    • Become a member of Milton Baptist Church.
